InDesign License Problem

14 Apr, 2009. Written by Tom Roggero

Well, yesterday I needed to make some brief in PDF and, as you might know, Illustrator doesn't allow you to make more than 1 page... So my idea was simple, make every page in Illustrator (I use the CS3 version) and import them from Adobe InDesign... for my bad luck, when I had finished everything, and tried to open the Adobe ID program, I received this aweful error:
( adobe indesign is not properly licensed and will now quit )
After looking up in Google, I realized that solving the problem was so easy... The error was happening because of a service was not running. So I just change the startup type of it, from disabled to manual, and it started working right again...
Screenshot Windows Services.msc
Never thought it was that easy, but anyway I want to share it. Also I added the category: solved problems to this blog.

EDIT (December 25, 2010):
If it's still not working, as commented below in this entry, you can download amtlib.dll (wupload link to be updated soon) and replace your current one in Program Files InDesign folder.

Amazing! :D Thanks so much for that file, I knew something was wrong with the one I had, but couldn’t find a better replacement.

If anyone is wondering how to pull up the Services window:
* Select Start|Settings|Control Panel
* double-click ‘Administrative Tools’
* double-click ‘Services’.
I couldn’t locate it at first. Mine was also already set at Manual.

I tried to amtlib.dll solution and it worked for InDesign. Thanks!

However, when I try to open Illustrator, it loads up and closes immediately. It says Adobe Illustrator CS5 TRYOUT on the window… Everything else seems to work fine. Any solutions?

Had the same error with indesign and with illustrator closing immediately after opening. amtlib replacement fixed both my indesign and illustrator problems. I just used the exact same file and replaced it in the illustratorcs5/support files/contents/windows folder. Both programs are working properly now

The dll file worked for me too – trying to use an InDesign trial, and it kept coming up with the “Adobe InDesign is not properly licensed and will now quit.”

Thanks! :-)

Can someone post the amtlib.dll file, cause the download link above doesn’t work? Or tell me where to download it?

Tried the solution from mx with deleting the cache file, and it worked! When i started InDesign CS4, it propted for the serial number… just entered it, and both InDesign and Illustrator work normally!
